After a year of searching, I am very excited to have found these beautiful spring fabrics for my new ballerina collection – Dancers in Damask. These modern fabrics are bright pinks, turquoises, and lavenders highlighted with greens and yellows. Complemented with always popular polka dots and ginghams- I can’t wait to turn them into ballerinas!

Spring 2014 Collection
Kelley Corbett Dolls Off for a Grand Adventure!
Happy New Year! I just love New Year’s. I, for one, am not a new year’s resolution person. I figure if you are going to do it, you might as well do it any other day of the year. But I do like the newness of the year. The “new beginning” feeling of the year. I usually take a break and look at things a little differently and crave a little change. And for some reason the simple change in calendar brings with it a sense that things CAN be new, different, and just a little bit adventurous. This Christmas, with the help of my family, we packaged thirty Kelley Corbett Dolls to go on adventures of their own. Fifteen of them have headed off to Honduras, with Operation Christmas Child, where they will be given to little girls and told the wonderful story of Christmas. Six have headed off to Nigeria through the Amobi Okoye Foundation to benefit Nigerian children. And nine have headed to children in need right here in Houston through the San Jose Clinic. My hope is that they bring joy, hope, and companionship to the special little girls that are waiting for them. Many adventures await for 2014, so let the New Year begin!
Pull out the umbrellas…no, not for rain
What is your favorite part of spring? The sun finally feeling warm on your face? The first bright flowers peeking out? Your favorite ice cream spot pulling out the table umbrellas and serving up your first scoop of the season? I love spring! Especially here in Katy. Mostly because it doesn’t last very long, so you have to enjoy it while you can. We seem to jump straight from winter into summer with the blink of an eye. But this year, spring has decided to bless us with its presence just a little bit longer, like a guest who lingers after dinner because you are just having such a good time laughing together. This lingering season has produced some of the most beautiful springtime flowers which have happily inspired me to create a special Kelley Corbett Ballerina Collection. And it is oh so fitting since I have enjoyed watching my own ballerina twirl these past few months. The ballerinas are made from a special collection of fabrics gathered from my favorite designers, among them Kaffe Fassett and Michael Miller, displaying beautiful combinations of pinks, turquoises, purples, and bright greens. And the most exciting part is that they are now available for sale at Stephanie’s Dance Studio One right here in Katy! It is located in the neighborhood on Kingsland Boulevard just across the street from Taylor High School. So if you are meandering around one afternoon (we can still meander occasionally, can’t we?), just stop by and check them out. They make great gifts for girls of all ages, newborn and up! And in the meantime, take care and enjoy your last few weeks of spring!
Vive la France!
What is your favorite product from France? A perfectly aged wine from Bordeaux, a wonderful gruyere cheese, or perhaps an aromatic block of fresh lavender soap? All very nice – but in my case, it is fabric. Yes, fabric. While surfing the internet late one night (which I have to admit I do on occasion) I found a wonderful little website, frenchrendezvous.com, that imports French fabrics. The fabrics are wonderful colors and patterns that are distinctively French and instantly take me to Provence. And now I am excited to turn them into fun little French girls. Here is my first of several I hope! She is donning a matching handkerchief, but I have a feeling the next one will be sporting a little french beret! Stay tuned and have a great week – maybe topped of with a glass of French wine – go ahead – you deserve it! Take care.
What’s in a label??
Have you ever thought about what’s in a label? I am not big into labels. I just like to think I am who I am….no strings attached…no labels. BUT… I was very excited when my new labels came in for my dolls this week. For one thing, I like to sew them on the dolls, and for another thing, there actually is a lot of meaning in them. The dolls are named Kelley Corbett dolls. And for those of you who do not know me and my family, my daughter’s name is Kelley, my sons middle name is Corbett, and the blue bird on the label is for my husband. My daughter calls him the “Blue Macaw.” So each time I sew a label on the dolls, it reminds me of each person in my family and how special they are to me. As the Easter weekend is upon us, I hope you have a great time with your family celebrating the blessings God has given all of us. Have a great Easter!
Oink! Oink!…
Where do you get your inspiration from? When I am sewing dolls, I get it from many different places, but sometimes I play kid movies while I’m sewing. Today I put on “Piglet’s Big Movie”, and look what I ended up with! A pig doll, complete with ears, squiggly tail, and pig nose! She is even wearing a dress of little pigs playing in the mud. My daughter told me that today was going to be a good day because a little piglet was going to be born! Can’t wait until she gets home from school…Happy Spring Break! I hope you get a chance to relax and enjoy yourself!

Just a quick note to wish you a happy Friday! Yea! Yea! Yea! Can’t wait for a fun weekend. The last two weeks have eaten me alive…sometimes it is just like that. But to brighten the days, I am very excited to announce that the Spring Collection of dolls are now available on my website, kelleycorbett.etsy.com for your viewing. Yea, yea, yea!
The first batch of spring dolls is here! Fun bright colors and bright cheery faces. And I actually finished the last doll right before Superbowl kickoff! I just love having the whole family together in the game room watching a fun movie or football game. It’s the best! And I really enjoy watching football when I am not emotionally attached to any particular team. So much more relaxing! So here’s to a weekend of a spring dolls and football! Congrats to the Giants! Have a good week and check out the dolls below! They should be on kelleycorbett.etsy.com soon along with the bunch!
